Prospero’s Books first opened its doors on November 19, 1997. The date coincided with the 78th anniversary of Sylvia Beach opening Shakespeare and Company in the Paris Left Bank. In the first five years since its founding, Prospero’s Books had grown its selection from 5,600 books squeezed into 1000 square feet of retail space to over 45,000 titles filling two floors.
“The quality of the collection has vastly improved since the early days,” notes long-time customer and collector. “Today, nearly everyone who visits the store, be they causal reader or antiquarian collector, can come away with a gem.”
From one KC Insider to another, there is no better way to spend a cold winters day, than to scan the shelves of this book seller!
